BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions (LS) has expanded its light-as-a-service offering to the public sector in France.

The lessor, which already provides LED light leasing to operators of private premises in the country, has now made the LED financing available to the public sector for use in public spaces.

Public administration customers can finance lighting for both urban and countryside roads, motorways and buildings.

BNP Paribas Leasing Solution estimated that by switching to leases between 2 and 7 years for LED equipment, cities in France could save 41% of the €2bn spent every year to light public areas.

The lessor said the leases would also help cities to certified for energy efficiency.

“As an extension of the commitment made by the BNP Paribas group to devote €15bn to the financing of renewable energies while strengthening its carbon risk management system, BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions France has decided to extend its LED lighting offer to public spaces.

Alain Escoffier, chief executive officer of BNP Paribas LS in France, said: “In their cities, French taxpayers will have the benefit of brighter lighting that’s safer, more economical and with lower maintenance costs.

A number of lessors and manufacturers in Europe operate similar light-as-a-service offers. They include LED Lease and Philips in the Netherlands, and Sweden-based Aura Light.
