Alphabet has appointed a chief operating officer for its UK operations.

Uwe Hildinger will take over from Nigel Fletcher, who served as interim chief operating officer for the last twelve months.

Hildinger was previously based at Alphabet’s headquarters in Munich, where he was chief sales officer. He has been with Alphabet since 2008, and has also covered the positions of head of business unit sales and head of business unit operations.

Alphabet UK chief executive officer, Nick Brownrigg, said: “Firstly, I’d like to express my sincere personal thanks to Nigel for the significant contribution he’s made to the Alphabet business in a relatively short time. We have been aware of Nigel’s intention to retire for a while and over the past several months we have conducted an extensive global search for this vitally-important role.

“We interviewed a number of extremely high-calibre candidates but Uwe’s vision, personal qualities and breadth of experience were unrivalled.

“Uwe joins us from Alphabet International where he has been a key part of the global leadership team and we’re extremely pleased to welcome him to the Alphabet family in the UK.”

Alphabet has been on an international recruitment and expansion drive as of late. The company expanded to fast-growing fleet markets including Ireland, the Balkans, Portugal and Russia, facilitated by partnerships with local players.

Last month, another key executive at the BMW subsidiary’s Munich headquarters, Sacha Imamkhan, moved to the UK to become head of remarketing for the country.

BMW and Alphabet’s UK arms have recently also signed a five-year de-fleeting agreement with BCA, which said it was its biggest contract ever.
