The Netherlands-based company LeasePlan Corporation, which
operates a fleet of 1.3 million multi-marque vehicles globally, is
to make 650 Opel Ampera electric vehicles available to fleet
customers in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France,
Spain, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Greece, the UK and Turkey by the end
of 2012.

LeasePlan’s partnership with Opel, under LeasePlan’s GreenPlan
banner which targets emissions reduction, includes the European
Ampera roadshow. For six months, at a variety of locations, the two
companies will showcase the technology and the extended range of
the vehicle.

The Ampera, available at the end of 2011, has space for four
adults and luggage and has a range of 40 – 80 km (25 – 50 miles)
from a 16kw lithium-ion battery, after which a petrol engine
engages and extends the driving range to around 500km
(approximately 310 miles).

GreenPlan is LeasePlan’s on-going strategy to assist clients in
reducing costs and meeting corporate environmental targets, and
includes FleetReporting which supplies emission and fuel
consumption reports to fleet managers.

EU tax benefits, fuel cost savings and promotion of ecological
responsibility has seen a shift in European fleet management for
SMEs and blue chips alike.

The trend ranges from EAE Ltd converting its fleet of 21 vans to
Citroën Relays running on bio-diesel, to Coca Cola Enterprises’
ambition to reduce running costs by £3.65m (€4.17m) over the next
four years through cutting C02 emissions to an average 130g/km per
vehicle.
