UK commercial vehicle registrations were up 25
percent in May 2010, according to the Society of Motor
Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Vans were up 32 percent to 17,025
units, the SMMT said. However, truck registrations are
still falling, with a 7.5 percent decrease in May.
“UK van registrations continue to rise, but
heavy truck registrations remain very low,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT
chief executive.
“Demand in both sectors is around 45 percent
below the pre-recession average; while vans are picking up
slightly, heavy trucks are heading for a record low. Against this
background it is vital that the emergency budget helps keep the
recovery moving.”
