A new search and selection business has entered the UK asset
finance market, in a fresh sign that recruitment across the
industry is returning to health.

101 recruitment, founded by former Lombard
broker manager David Calleja-Gera, aims to work across the breadth
of the commercial finance industry, with asset finance as a
specialist area.

“To put it bluntly, things are picking up”,
said Calleja-Gera, commenting on his decision to start up in
recruitment at the tail end of a prolonged employment freeze.

101 has made several placements so far with
smaller funders and brokers, two sectors of the market which
Calleja-Gera says are surprisingly aggressive in terms of demand
for sales resource, and is looking to build a wider client
base.

Calleja-Gera began his asset finance career
with RBS subsidiary RoyScot Trust in 1998, before it was merged
with Lombard after the integration of Natwest into the RBS group in
2000.

When Lombard’s broker unit was cut back in 2004, he took a
position with an asset finance broker, before moving on in 2005 to
set up an asset finance desk for a recruitment company. 101,
founded earlier this year, is his first independent venture into
the market.
