The new Leaseurope chairman, John Bennett, managing director of
global vendor finance at Bank of America, has announced “the
promotion of the leasing and automotive rental industries as major
contributors to the European economy” as his key priority during
his four-year mandate.
Bennett, who was vice-president of Leaseurope last year, has just
replaced John-Marc Mignerey, CEO of SG Equipment Finance, as
chairman.
Bennett also said he will “continue Leaseurope’s efforts to
preserve the integrity of leasing and automotive rental activities
in exchanges with the EU, the International Accounting Standards
Board (IASB), the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS),
and other international institutions”.

He added: “Through real team work and a reinforced cooperation
with our member national associations, I am confident that we will
remain the best interlocutor of the industries we represent on the
European scene.”
With 48 member associations, including recent affiliate Ecatra,
Leaseurope is enjoying united representation of the leasing and
automotive rental sectors across Europe. In 2006 its leasing
members accounted for 92 per cent of the European leasing market
and financed over €297.5bn in new investments in vehicles,
equipment and real estate. It now represents about 8,000 companies
and 200,000 staff.
Bennett has over 25 years of experience in key leasing market
sectors and is a board member of the UK’s Finance & Leasing
Association.
He received acclamation at the Leaseurope General Assembly last
week following the announcement of his new role.
“With the many challenges ahead, I know that we can rely on the
strong support and dynamism of Leaseurope’s Committees, the board
and a re-energized Leaseurope Secretariat in Brussels to get things
done,” Bennett said.
