Around 100 employees at Italy’s Centro Leasing
are being laid off in the midst of a company restructuring carried
out by the lessor’s parent company, the Intesa Sanpaolo banking
group.
Centro Leasing currently has a total of 240
employees, and the proposed job cuts would almost halve the leasing
company.

Trade unionist Alessandro Martinuzzo told
Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper that unions fear the
future of the whole company could be at stake.
He told the newspaper: “We wouldn’t want to
find out that by dint of becoming smaller, the company disappears
or continues in a reduced capacity.”
Centro Leasing was acquired by Intesa Sanpaolo
in April 2008. Italy’s second biggest bank also owns Leasint, which
is the country’s second largest lessor.
