UK small and medium-sized businesses see high
cost of materials, business spending and price of
fuel as the biggest limitations on their success, a GE Capital
report has found.

The report, which is based on interviews with
500 UK SME owners, found that 39 percent of the surveyed
companies see raw materials and inventory costs as their main
challenge.

Fears about consumer and business spending (38
percent) and the increased burden of regulation (36 percent) are
next on the list. According to the findings, around 22 percent of
the firms also see price of fuel as a limitation.

GE Capital CEO John Jenkins said: “Britain’s
SMEs must not be overlooked.  With nearly 1.2 million firms
still saying that they will shrink this year, it is vital that
Government continues to focus on maintaining the right conditions
to support growth.”
