Commercial vehicle registrations declined by over 35 percent in
the first quarter of 2009 across Europe, industry figures have
shown.

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) said
that the European market registered 451,137 vehicles, 35.6 percent
less that the same period a year ago.

New van registrations fell by 35.3 percent, and all markets were
hit by the downturn, with the UK and Spain declining the most,
respectively by 45.8 and 50.9 percent.

In the same period, new trucks between 3.5 and 16 tonnes
fell by 38.2 percent, with the UK down by 36.6 percent and Spain
being the worst affected with a 71.4 percent fall.

Heavy trucks – over 16 tonnes – were down by 41.5 percent, with
a 45.4 percent decrease in the UK and a 75 percent decrease in
Spain.
