Europe’s commercial vehicle registrations declined by over 42
percent in April, figures from the European Automobile
Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) have shown.

New truck and van registrations totalled 139,870 units, and the
decrease was sharper in the new EU member states with -42.5 percent
compared to -36.5 percent in Western Europe.

In the van segment, all major markets declined significantly,
ranging from -30 percent in Italy to -45.6 percent in the UK and
over -58 percent in Spain.

In the heavy truck segment – trucks over 16 tonnes –
registrations were 47 percent down. Except for the Dutch and Swiss
markets, which expanded by 33 and 22.1 percent respectively, all
other markets contracted, with the UK down by 46.4 percent and
Spain by 79.3 percent.

Trucks between 3.5 and 16 tonnes declined by 43.5 percent in
general, by 41 percent in the UK and 75.7 in Spain.

In total, four months into the year, there was a 37.3 percent
decrease.

For the period, van registrations declined by 37.1 percent,
truck registrations by 39.7 percent, and heavy truck registrations
by 42.8 percent.
