German auto manufacturer Volkswagen has reported 22,846 registrations for the first six months of 2014, a 10.1% increase on 2013 figures and a new half-year record for the company.

Commercial vehicle sales for June also hit a record high of 4,146 vehicles, up 16.3% on last year’s results for the month.

Among the units sold during the first half of the year were 20,907 light commercial vehicles (LCVs), up 11.3% from 18,782 units sold over the same period in 2013, adding to 1,939 camper van and passenger carrier registrations to secure Volkswagen’s 14.7% UK market share.

Andrew Waite, head of sales for Volkswagen commercial vehicles, described the period from January to June 2014 as "a strong start" to the year.

"Demand for our products remains exceptionally high," he said, adding: "This result proves that customers recognise the benefits of our strong residual values, low whole-life costs and exceptional value for money."
