UK law firm Shoosmiths has taken on a new
partner to lead its asset finance fraud practice.

Melanie Chell, previously at HBJ Gateley
Wareing’s Leicester office as a banking and asset finance
litigation partner, has joined the Birmingham office and will
provide her expertise to motor and asset finance clients.

She said: “I had worked at Shoosmiths before
and I knew the culture and the people. I want this move to be the
final move in my career.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity – their lender
services group has grown hugely and it’s now a really major part of
the firm.”

Chell’s role will include working on complex
fraud cases for existing clients and she is also hoping to bring in
new clients.

“My role is to develop the fraud arena in
terms of asset and motor finance. At HBJ, we were doing a lot of
fraud work for our lender clients and that’s what I’m looking to
expand within Shoosmiths,” she said.

“They’ve got a fantastic client list, working
for all the major financial institutions. I hope to continue to
develop within lender services so that we can recruit great calibre
people and grow the team in this area.”

Partner and head of asset finance Joanne Davis
added: “We’re absolutely delighted to have Melanie on board because
she brings remarkable industry knowledge, and adds strength and
depth to our current offering.

“Her joining really is the icing on the cake
and represents a significant move, not just for us, but for the
sector, too.”

Chell, a former Shoosmiths trainee, has also
worked for Lester Aldridge in Milton Keynes.
