Addressing a gathering of UK leasing and asset
finance industry professionals, Peter McDonnell, chief executive of
Cordoba Group, has suggested forming a not-for-profit organisation
complimentary to the Finance & Leasing Association (FLA).

McDonnell said there was room in the UK
leasing industry for a not-for-profit membership organisation,
geared towards social events and research.

The idea was in part a response to the
increasing popularity of the Cordoba Group’s bi-annual leasing
lunches and McDonnell said it might be time to formalise the
gatherings and include guest speakers.

Having made the informal announcement at a
leasing lunch in London on 28 June, McDonnell said he would take
soundings from the industry to see if there is a demand for another
trade organisation.

“If what the industry says is positive then
the next step is to gather together people from the industry that
have a desire to be part of this, whatever this is, and start to
create something which will deliver something back to the
industry,” he told Leasing Life.

“It is not our intention to build something to
compete with or replace the FLA but there may be gaps in what the
FLA takes to its members,” he added.

“We feel there is something out there the
industry wants but they are not currently getting.”

McDonnell said it would be highly unlikely he
would run the organisation but it would be run by people from the
industry.

Guests at the lunch event raised £1000 for the
national Mafan Association.

A spokesperson for the FLA said: “We are
delighted the leasing lunch raised a considerable sum to support
the national Mafan Association and we hope there will be many
future informal events for all parts of the leasing industry like
this one.”
