Keith Sherin, chief financial officer of General Electric (GE) is due to become head of the company’s finance unit, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Sherin would take over from current incumbent, GE Capital chief executive officer, Michael Neal, who has held the role for eight years.

The paper, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter, speculated that the change could happen as early as this summer.

Seth Martin, a GE spokesman, told news agency Reuters that the company does not speculate on future scenarios, adding "Mike Neal is an excellent leader of GE Capital".
