A report sponsored by the Licence Bureau
has revealed nearly that six in 10 fleets do not test drivers for
alcohol with 63% of fleets not testing for illegal
drugs.

The findings come from road safety
charity Brake’s annual survey results in its fleet safety forum
report, Measuring the Risk (part 2), which also
highlighted four in 10 companies do not offer eyesight tests for
its drivers.

Brake’s report is published just a few
days after the Department for Transport posted provisional figures
showing deaths resulting from drink driving increased 12%, from 250
to 280, year on year from 2010 to 2011. The statistic for seriously
injured casualties rose by 3% from 1,250 to 1,290.

Renault’s Premium
Selection

French brand Renault has launched a
range of its highest-quality ex-fleet 6×2 and 4×2 tractor units
under the ‘Premium Selection’ banner.

All trucks available through the
selection will be less than four years old, with mileage under
480,000km (300,000 miles) and comes with a 12-month warranty
underscored by a Renault Trucks’ 96-point check.

The trucks will be available on a range
of financial and service packages.

 

TNT Volkswagen
trial

Volkswagen (VW) Commercial Vehicles has
agreed a trial with the UK arm of business-to-business courier TNT
Express.

The trial is for ten of VW’s Crafter
single-chassis cabs with a box van conversion will be monitored
over an average annual mileage of around 30,000.

Steve Davis, National Engineering
Manager TNT Express Services UK & Ireland, said: “As with all
our fleet vehicles, the Crafter will be assessed on a variety of
points including fuel economy, operational activity, ease of
maintenance and driver evaluation.”
