European IT and telecoms funder Econocom has
signed an agreement to acquire French IT security specialist Cap
Synergy.

Econocom, which provides IT consultancy,
distribution, and outsourcing as well as leasing services, said the
deal is part of a strategy of targeted acquisitions to help the
French-headquartered firm address the issues of changing
technologies and patterns of use in IT.

Luc De Clerck, services director for Econocom
France, said: “With the advent of cloud computing, mobile
computing, and the proliferation of tablets and smartphones,
companies’ IT systems are changing, and this raises a number of
security issues, requiring increased protection of sensitive
data.

“Cap Synergy’s industry-recognised expertise
will enable us to expand our service offering and is in line with
the group’s objective to establish itself as a strategic partner
that can address all a company’s IT needs.”

Cap Synergy, which according to the Econocom
announcement has revenue of €10m and a customer base of medium and
large companies and public institutions, provides integrated IT and
network security systems including data security and systems
backup.

The acquisition is subject to various
conditions and should be finalised during the third quarter of
2012.
