Dutch lessor De Lage Landen took home two prizes from the 2013 Leasing Life Awards ceremony in Berlin’s Grand Hyatt hotel including the European Lessor of the Year.

Last year’s winner Société Générale Equipment Finance (SGEF) was again recognised in the category, receiving an honourable mention from the judges, but it was De Lage Landen’s "incredible business growth" over the year which made it number one in 2013.

And for the second time in a row SGEF won the SME Champion award for its dedication to smaller business clients.

Nordea, too, was recognised for its work in the SME space, being highly commended for its wide range of products.

De Lage Landen also took home the Product & Service Innovation award for its bespoke "cradle-to-cradle" finance product.

The Dutch company was also highly commended for its work in the hotly competitive vendor finance market.

But it was Nordea’s work in the vendor space which made it the winner of this year’s Vendor Finance Provider of the year award.

In captive finance, the work of Dell Financial Services throughout 2013 was highly commended.

However, the winner of the Captive Finance Provider of the Year award was, for the second year, Cisco Capital. Its close integration with its parent manufacturer was seen as the difference by the judges.

Work in the legal sector was recognised by the Asset Finance Legal Provider award and highlighted among the nominees for its hard work was DWF.

However, the now two-time winner was Addleshaw Goddard, recognised for its breadth of expertise and range of clients.

The broker market’s contribution to European asset finance was recognised in the Broker of the Year Award which was won by Kennet Equipment Leasing, while Asset Finance Solutions was highly commended.

Work in the environmental asset sector was recognised in the Green Finance Transaction award. Belfius Leasing was recognised for an "impressive and sizable" deal in 2013, but it was Raiffeisen Leasing’s work in the sector, and its "fantastic level of expertise" which took the prize.

The Young Professional of the Year prize, awarded to a young leasing professional judged to have excelled in 2013 and to have demonstrated real sector expertise, was presented to Marco Ripamonti. He was recognised for his work in helping to set up and grow the BNP Paribas Technology Solutions Italy division.

At the other end of the experience spectrum, the Industry Ambassador of the Year award, chosen by the Leasing Foundation board of governors, went to Jukka Salonnen, chief executive of Nordea Finance and chairman of Leaseurope while Chris Sullivan, head of corporate banking at RBS, and a former stalwart of Lombard, took the Lifetime Achievement award.

Lombard was awarded the second Editor’s Special award in recognition of its 152-year history helping to fund businesses.
