Overall registrations of new vans
and trucks in April 2010 were more than 21% down for the rolling
year, showing “contrasting recovery trends”, according to the
Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Almost 2,500 new trucks were
registered in April 2010, a 17.2% drop compared with one year
ago.
Van registrations, on the other
hand, were up 6.7%, with almost 14,900 new vans registered.
Paul Everitt, chief executive at the SMMT, said that while van
registrations continued the growth seen in the first quarter, the
reduced demand for trucks still reflects a lack of business
confidence.
