What was your first ever
job?
Team Leader Finance for a local government
institution.

Where’s the best place to go
if you want to find out what’s really going on in the
office?
Walking around in all the DLL offices I visit
(many), I show my face and have a sincere interest in how people
are doing.

What time do you usually leave
the office?
When I am at headquarters I mostly leave
around 7pm to 7.30pm.

What do you do at
weekends?
I am the head coach of my two sons’ soccer team
(they play the games on Saturdays). As my main hobby is running
marathons, I am often doing my longer runs in the weekends in very
nice surroundings close to my home. I also go to gatherings and
get-togethers with family and friends, or go to a nice restaurant
with my wife, and read if time is left.

What’s your favourite
restaurant
? I have no real favourite as I like to visit a
few different very good restaurants in the region regularly.

If you weren’t in your current
job, what would you be doing?
In the top of a global
enterprise that provides challenges to be able to develop as a
person but also a place where the business culture inspires. It
should be a place where I can add value where the bar is high as I
love to play in the top of the “champions’ league”.

Who is your mentor or role
model?
I like to learn from people with different
perspectives. People in top sports, executive leaders and
politicians.

What is the best thing about
your job?
Working with teams – inspiring people and being
inspired – and by doing so, also really being connected to many
customers throughout the world. Working with happy employees and
happy customers drives my happiness and inspiration.

What has been your biggest
career mistake?
I do not regret any career step I made so
far. On top, life is a journey and not every step can be planned.
Until now, all steps were interesting and they all offered lots of
opportunity to learn. It was a pleasure to be able to live and work
in different countries, not just for me, but more importantly for
my family.

What car do you
drive?
BMW 5 series.

What books/blogs/periodicals
are you currently reading?
Dutch Financial Times;
a book about the fast changing world and the impact on people
(Sustainable Excellence: The Future of Business in a
Fast-Changing World
); a book about a former executive who
changed people’s lives (Leaving Microsoft to Change the
World
by John Wood); and stories about the psychological
aspects of top sports and how to inspire in a competitive
environment.

What is on your CD player or mp3 player at the
moment?
Neil Diamond; Bruce Springsteen; Queen.
