CV production in Europe was more than halved in Q1 2009,
according to a recent report realised by the European Automobile
Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).

Van and truck production fell by 57 pecent and 56 percent
respectively, a much heavier decline than the 31 percent
fall recorded for the manufacture of passengers cars.

Only 226,739 vans and 76,651 heavy trucks were manufactured in
the first quarter of the year.

In total, around 3.4 million vehicles were produced over the
first quarter of 2009, 35 percent less than in the same period of
2008.

With a drop of 57.4 percent, the UK was the worst affected of
the five largest European producers, followed by France  with
a 46 percent decline and Spain with a 40.2 percent decline.

Bus and coach production, however, only dropped by 1
percent.
