Matt Dyer tells Jason T Hesse that
sometimes you only need to look as far as your own
backyard.

Matt DyerAt any given moment
in a career, lessors sometimes feel the need for a new challenge.
Irrespective of how much you enjoy your current job, change can
often reinvigorate your day-to-day work. For LeasePlan’s Matt Dyer,
the desire for a new challenge opened new doors within his
company.

Last month, Dyer, who had been managing
director of LeasePlan International (LPI) for five years, swapped
jobs with Tim Hudson, the commercial director for LeasePlan UK.

“This was a chance for me to go back into the
UK environment and run the commercial side from a national
operation,” said Dyer.

“But it’s also about broadening my experience,
working outside of just international business.”

At LPI, Dyer was responsible for leading the
international sales and commercial team to meet the needs of
international customers throughout the 30 countries that LeasePlan
operates in.

“It was about taking a strategic view of the
marketplace, and how different customers come to the table in each
country,” he said.

When both he and Hudson signalled that they
were looking for a new challenge, the timing clicked quite nicely,
Dyer said.

“There had been a lot of very heavy activity
for both of us over the past three years – both through the growth
cycle and the last 12 months, which have been much more about
ensuring the quality of the business,” he explained.

In his new role as commercial director in the
UK, Dyer will be responsible for looking after and growing
LeasePlan’s four UK brands: LeasePlan, Automotive Leasing, Network
and FleetLine.

“There are some very sophisticated and unique
attributes to the UK market,” Dyer explained.

“For example the franchisee or broker model is
an important part of what drives the business forward, as is
Automotive Leasing, the public sector business.”

For Dyer, the move to the UK position will
allow him to broaden his experience across the business, while
Hudson will be able to bring his strong national experience and
broaden his views of the market place internationally, he
added.
