CV registrations in the UK were almost 45 percent down in
January, according to industry figures recently released.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said that
trucks were down 31.9 percent in January, and the drop was even
more significant for vans, which plunged by 47.3 percent for the
month.

SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt said January figures showed
the “close link” between CV registrations and the current economic
climate.
He said: “[Figures] show how tough the first half of the year
will get as spending slows. Vans are down nearly 50 percent for the
month and 18 percent for the rolling year and now trucks are
falling fast after holding up until the final quarter of 2008.”
“With stock to clear and judgements needed on when and where the
fall in demand will stop, the UK commercial vehicle business is in
for a very tough year even if government policy aid and lending
guarantees arrive,” he added.
