Portugal’s leasing and renting industry
had a 30 percent drop in the first six months of 2009,
according to the country’s leasing association ALF.

“Of all the European countries, Portuguese
leasing and renting were among those that had the
lowest decline in the first six months of 2009”, the
association said.

The association said that the aggregate
production reached €2.3 billion in the period, and was almost €4.8
billion for the whole year.

It said it was “far from the losses” in
countries like Spain, Ireland, and the CEE region. ALF president
José Amaro Beja said that Portuguese lessors have “reacted swiftly”
to the crisis and managed to contain the worst effects of it.
