Boni, secretary of state at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, has
asked that the “National Fund of Loan Guarantees” at the
state-owned BGK Bank receive up to 2 billion zlotys (€0.5 billion)
to act as guarantor.

According to Boni, this would make it possible to inject 20
billion zlotys (€5.2 billion) into the economy in 2009 via loans
and leasing, which would then be covered by the guarantee fund.
The report, “Poland’s Actions Against the Financial Crisis: A
Package for Stability and Growth”, states that although the Polish
banking sector is not threatened by the crisis, “Poland is not a
lone island”, and external factors could impact Polish
businesses.
