Hospital highlights benefits of
leasing

A £1.2m leasing deal has been completed as part of a major
revamp of Basingstoke hospital.
The deal includes 383 new beds, 308 bedside chairs and 38 trolleys,
as well as a raft of hi-tech equipment. These include 20
highly-specialised intensive care and delivery suite beds, 400
pressure-relieving mattresses and 105 electric pressure-relieving

The new equipment was acquired under a leasing deal after the
hospital foundation trust achieved a surplus of more than £1m
between 2006 and 2007.

Donna Green, the hospital’s deputy chief executive and director
of nursing, said: “The major benefits are that patients will be
cared for in electric-profile beds, which are much more comfortable
and supportive, while reducing the risks to staff in maneuvering
patients with mobility problems.

“We are also delighted that our intensive care and
high-dependency areas are the second in the UK to have all patients
being cared for on rotational total care sport beds’.”

Many of the old beds have been sold to an auction house and 60
have been donated to charity and will be shipped to a hospital in
Uganda.
