New registrations of commercial vehicles
have gone down for the fifth consecutive month in the EU, with a
contraction of almost 10 per cent in Western Europe.

ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturer Association, released
figures showing that in September the demand for new commercial
vehicles fell by 8.8 per cent, despite two extra working days
across the region.

The falling demand, however, was mainly in Western Europe,
where there was a 9.8 per cent drop, while the
demand was stable in the new EU member states.

The LCV segment decreased the most, with an overall 9.6 per cent
decrease, although countries like Spain and Ireland reported a
decline of over 40 per cent. The heavy commercial vehicle sector
had, instead, a smaller 4.8 per cent decline.

However, demand for buses and coaches increased by over 7 per
cent in September.
