The finance and operating lease market has grown 59 percent
year-on-year in Bulgaria, according Bulgarian central bank data.
Lease contracts reached BGN 5.8 billion (€3 billion) at the end of
December 2008.

The vast majority – 98.8 percent – of all leasing deals were
finance leases. In the fourth quarter of 2008 these equalled BGN
936 million (€479 million), down 1.1 percent from the same period
in 2007.

Car leases accounted for BGN 1.9 billion (€972 million), up 54.1
percent year-on year; and the machinery and industrial equipment
was worth BGN 1.6 billion (€794 million), up 53.7 percent.

Most of the lease contracts, 81.9 percent, had a maturity of up
to five years, the central bank said.
