The deal as a whole has been a gold mine for lawyers as, in
addition to the vast team at the international firm Linklaters,
which represented RBS, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer fielded a
total of 18 partners and assistants while advising Angel’s
acquirers, a consortium led by Babcock & Brown.

A Linklaters statement published today revealed that the firm’s
team spanned “banking, corporate, tax, competition, litigation,
employment, EDM, environment & planning, IP, pensions, real
estate, structured finance, TMT and capital markets”, and involved
lawyers from its offices in London, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf,
Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Milan, Paris, Brussels and Madrid.
The Freshfields team was led by finance partner Richard Phillips,
while the Linklaters army of lawyers were co-led by corporate
partner, William Buckley, and asset finance partner, Simon
Gwynne.
