IT finance group Econocom is set to supply schools with IT
computer equipment used at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Econocom is believed to be
financing the sale and leaseback of 9,600 personal computers, 1,000
laptops and 1,000 servers supplied by Acer to be used at the
Games.
At the end of the lease, the
laptops will be distributed to schools under the auspices
of
UK charity the e-Learning Foundation while Econocom will be selling
the personal computers into schools.
The Foundation aims to give
children access to learning technologies, working with schools,
parents and stakeholders.

commitments made throughout the run-up to London 2012 regarding
what will happen to the land, capital and enterprise employed once
the Games are over, including:
- The commitment by mayors of
the six boroughs hosting the Games to improve low educational
attainment in East London. - The commitment by the
Olympic Delivery Authority to provide five distinct legacies,
including social and economic legacies, from London
2012. - The statement in the
original bid document: “By staging the Games in this part of the
city, the most enduring legacy of the Olympics will be the
regeneration of an entire community for the direct benefit of
everyone who lives there.”
Under a stipulation of their No
Marketing Rights Supplier Protocol, and to protect the rights of
their sponsors, the London 2012 Organising Committee for the
Olympic Games could not make anybody available for comment on the
story.
