Fraikin has extended a contract
hire agreement with the London Borough of Harrow worth more than
£3.6 million (€3.8 million).
The full service agreement to supply
and maintain the borough’s entire vehicle requirements will run for
10 more years and will last until December 2018. The deal includes
a comprehensive fleet management service.

The commercial vehicle lessor
currently provides Harrow with 255 vehicles and items of plant, and
the fleet is expected to reach 275 units by mid-2009.
The new agreement will include 31 new
Euro 5 refuse collection vehicles, of which 28 are Mercedes-Benz
Econics, plus three Daf 45 LFs.
The new trucks will join the fleet
before April 2009 and replace a number of spot-hire vehicles that
are being provided on short-term rental.
They will be part of a boosted
environmental strategy within the Borough of Harrow aimed at
reaching a 50 percent recycling rate.

holder for environment services, said that the vehicles were “a
positive and upbeat statement” of the borough’s new environmental
strategy.
“Whenever our householders see them,
they will know we are making even more progress towards becoming
the best recycler in London,” she said.
A number of new light commercial
vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, will also be
dedicated to collect clinical waste, together with bespoke-built
plant trailers for towing grass cutting machines.
Fraikin UK chairman and managing
director John Ball said that the company intended to enhance its
workshop building and supporting infrastructure to “deliver an even
higher standard of service”.
He added: “As a result of securing
this early contract extension, we are preparing to invest over
£150,000 in upgrading our maintenance facility, which is housed
within Harrow Council’s site.”
