vendors are relying on refurbished equipment to supplement their
income. The UK’s largest independent ICT dealer, Annodata, is
taking the lead with its refurbished rental book now accounting for
up to 40 percent of its total business.
million (€53 million) in revenue this financial year, owns a plant
in Dunstable where it refurbishes used equipment to be rented. The
engineers can dismantle and completely rebuild equipment with
accreditation from the original manufacturer.
“What is really important, from the customer perspective, is
that they are comfortable with the quality of any refurbishment or
remanufacturing that is being provided to them by the vendor,” said
Annodata group sales director Rod Tonna-Barthet.
“We have made a substantial investment in our warehouse,
allowing us to rent out refurbished, printers and photocopiers to
customers independently from lessors,” he added.

Annodata uses the facility for clients who are having difficulty
obtaining finance, to extend rental capability to customers without
having to take any capitalised risk into the business. It is also
used for customers who prefer a more affordable option to new, more
expensive, products.
“This is a profitable part of our business. We can refurbish and
rent out equipment that owes us nothing more than internal charging
for the refurbishment cost,” said Barthet. “It also means we are
not entirely dependent on lessors to be able to write our
business.”
Annodata expects double-digit growth, “around 10 to 15 percent”,
despite a fierce market; and is actively planning on making some
acquisitions for additional growth this year. According to Barthet,
the company is speaking to “a number of businesses” that he expects
to acquire before year-end.
