the Americas alone in 2011, cannibalising PC sales, investment bank
Goldman Sachs has predicted.

By contrast, the PC market has shown
signs of having peaked. According to research company Gartner,
84.3m PCs were shipped worldwide in the first quarter of 2011 -a
1.1 per cent year-on-year decline.
“Low prices for consumer PCs, which
had long stimulated growth, no longer attracted buyers,” said
Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner in research published
in April.
