- Limited demand in the UK for
low tonnage/capacity machines. - A large proportion of low
tonnage moulding work is carried out in the Far East and imported
to the UK and Europe. - Many second user UK-based low
capacity machines have been sold for export into developing
economies following company closures. - Most UK demand from companies
undertaking short runs of high quality products or research and
development.
Injection Moulding: 250–500
Tonnes
- European demand remains slow
for mid-size moulding machinery, as it remains economical to ship a
large proportion of components from the Far East. - We are aware of some supplier
quotations for proposed new machinery in the UK which may lead to
an upturn in the market for mid-capacity machines in the coming
months.
Injection Moulding: more than
500 Tonnes
- Demand remains steady within
the UK and Europe for high capacity machines as due to the size of
the components it is not generally economical to import from the
Far East. - Demand is still stronger for
leading brands, a trend which has been seen during recent
years.
Blow Moulding
- Limited demand for new
machinery from within UK as such machines are predominantly used
for bottle production and there is adequate capacity in the market
place at present. - Some limited demand for second
user machinery from the Middle East and South America in respect of
leading brands. - Cheaper machines supplied from
the Far East reducing prices of equipment on market.

By GlobalData- Demand remains slow in UK
market place for rotational moulding machinery. - Ageing second user machines are
becoming un-saleable. However, a limited export market for low
value equipment remains. - High gas prices putting
pressure on production costs.
Extrusion
(sheet/profile/industrial)
- Demand remains slow for PVC-U
extruders and converting machinery for window frame and building
product manufacture as the UK house building sector struggles to
regain ground lost in the economic decline.
Extrusion (film and
packaging)
- Limited demand for blown film
extrusion lines. - Demand for plastic bag
converting machinery remains slow especially for older kit as
retailers move away from plastic bags.
Shredding and
Granulation
- Demand for recycling equipment
remains positive within the UK as companies reprocessing and
remoulding waste product. - Quotations for high value new
recycling machinery have been seen in recent months. - High oil prices encouraging more
reprocessing.
