As it reaches the final stage of an
agreement with Chrysler, which should give Fiat 35 percent of the
ailing US giant, it is also looking at acquiring Opel, the GM-owned
German carmaker.

A Fiat-Opel deal could also affect
their current captive structure. Currently, Fiat’s captive, FGA
Capital, has a branch in Germany, and so does GMAC, the GM-owned
company that finances Opel cars and vans.
