Fourth lease accounting approach welcomed by ELFA

The bodies responsible for the upcoming lease accounting changes have agreed to consider a fourth option for the new standard following a recent joint meeting The FASB and IASB agreed to consider the whole contract method following consistent feedback to the initial exposure draft of the proposal. US leasing trade body, the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA), which has championed this approach, said feedback consistently supported a straight line cost pattern for operating leases to reflect better a leases economic effects in lessee financial statements.

Slaats: Leasing misunderstood by regulators

The chief executive of global lessor De Lage Landen has hit out at over-regulation of leasing, which he says is the result of a tarnished reputation for the banking sector. Ronald Slaats named regulatory changes chief among the challenges facing the leasing industry, describing the current round as a misdirected response to the global financial crisis. In an exclusive interview with Leasing Life, Slaats said: Our industry is getting over-regulated and the regulation is not going in the same direction some times there are contradictions and sometimes it appears to be form over substance.

DLL signs construction kit vendor deal

The deal, through which the Rabobank-owned lessor will support dealer sales of the Korean manufacturer across Europe, is called Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe Finance.The programme will be initially rolled out in France, Germany and the UK, with Hyundai dealers receiving training and marketing support from De Lage Landen over the next few months. The scheme will be launched in Italy and Poland in three months time and then across De Lage Landens other European markets on a case-by-case basis.Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe marketing manager Milan Wamsteker said: The joint program will allow our customer to get quick access to tailored flexible finance solutions at the point of sale.

2% revenue rise keeps Econocom on track

European IT and telecoms funder Econocom has reported a modest 2% growth in revenue in the first quarter of 2012. The firm posted revenue of 357m in the three months to 31 March 2012, compared to 350m in the same period last year. Growth was experienced in Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Southern Europe, while business remained stable on the whole in France, which accounted for nearly 50% of the companys consolidated revenue, and the Benelux region, which accounted for 24%.

Leaseurope Index could get reboot for Q1

The upcoming edition of the Leaseurope Index, a comprehensive quarterly report on European leasing business, may include upgraded features to increase value to users. The Index was launched last year and is issued every quarter with aggregated data on operating income, profit and new business volumes among Leaseurope members. Following the publication of 2011s fourth quarter data in February, Leaseuropes research team have surveyed participating companies on the changes they would like to see made.

LeasePlan launches euro & sterling securitisation backed by UK fleet

Independent fleet lessor LeasePlan has announced a 700m securitisation backed by its UK leasing portfolio. The Netherlands-headquartered firm has placed £582.1m (706.8m) in securities in two tranches: 445.8m denoted class A1 and £212.1m denoted class A2. A statement from LeasePlan said there was a high level of oversubscription in the euro tranche.
