European CV manufacturers ask for crisis-relief measures
European commercial vehicle manufacturers have called upon EU governments and institutions to support the ailing CV sector by investing more in infrastructure, restoring access to financing and stimulating fleet renewal. Speaking at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, the chairman of the European Automoblile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) Leif stling said that EU governments should act in a coordinated way to prevent the failing of CV businesses.
Advanced Vehicle Leasing sees increased demand for cars, while vans go down
UK lessor Advanced Vehicle Leasing has seen demand for cars rise during the first months of the year, while demand for vans has decreased. The Tees Valley-based company, which provides vehicle contract hire and leasing to businesses across the UK, said that in Q1 2009 its market share increased by 10 percent, but with a clear shift in favour of its car business.

MPS Leasing & Factoring to offer SME firms chance to defer leasing payments
A number of Italian leasing companies and banks, including MPS Leasing & Factoring, have signed an agreement with the regional administration of Tuscany to allow struggling firms to defer the payment of their loan and lease instalments until the end of the year. The initiative, which involves 13 banks and two leasing companies MPS Leasing & Factoring and Centro Leasing Banca is aimed at local small and medium-sized companies which have a good payment history with the lenders, but are now encountering problems in keeping up with payments.
Contract hire company Gulliver’s orders 18 tankers to service new contracts
CV contract hire company Gullivers has ordered 18 vehicles in a deal worth over £1 million from Whale Tankers, the manufacturer specialised in vacuum tankers and jetting equipment. With the new vehicles, Gullivers will now operate in excess of 100 tankers all from Whale and will total more than 2,500 vehicles in its fleet, ranging from small vans to large tractor units, in a network of eight regional depots.
