Asset finance on banks’ agendas
The FLA has welcomed a move to point businesses toward alternative forms of finance by the Business Finance Taskforce, made up of six UK banks. The push on asset finance and other alternative financing was one of 17 recommendations made by the group, made up of Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Standard Charter. Sangwin joins BNP Paribas
Keith Sangwin has joined BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions, taking a position as head of dealer accounts for its equipment and logistics solutions division. The division incorporates the recently rebranded groups materials handling, commercial vehicle, agricultural and construction asset leasing operations, including the Albury Asset Rentals and Humberclyde brands. Sangwin has been in the leasing industry for more than 30 years, and has held several senior positions within the asset finance function at Barclays, most recently as sales director of the banks asset and sales finance division.

Peter Hunt analyses market statistics for the year to May 31 2008Highlights:After a period of resilient growth, the FLA business finance market looked rather precarious in May, potentially at a tipping point. Such are the vagaries of monthly reporting that time may tell a different story, but with monthly volumes (excluding big ticket) 19 per cent down on the month and 13 per cent year-onyear, for the first time this year YTD figures showed a drop from last year. Big ticket volumes were down 67 per cent on the month, though still marginally up on last year and well up YTD.Direct, broker and sales finance all showed monthly and year-on-year declines. Sales finance, down 19 per cent YTD, appears most impacted, having shown year-on-year monthly declines throughout 2008. All finance product categories were also lower than last month and May last year.
Ex Barclays director takes the helm at Lombard
Ex Barclays director takes the helm at Lombard Paul Lynam has stepped down as head of asset finance at Lombard after three years in the post. He has been replaced by Alex Baldock,who has joined from Barclays Commercial Bank, where he was commercial director.Lynam, who has been appointed chief executive of the UK Business banking Division of RBS, recently centralised most of Lombards sales staff. He managed to maintain Lombard as Europes biggest lessor despite challenges from the likes of UniCredit Leasing.
