A growing vendor
finance arrangement between Bibby Leasing and leading UK
refrigeration supplier Total Refrigeration is the latest in a
recent trend of SME-focused initiatives aimed at leasing rather
than purchasing equipment.

Historically, Total, the largest branded ice cream freezer supplier
in the UK, only occasionally leased assets. However, by the end of
February 2009, it had already seen as many leasing applications
passed on to Bibby as 2008 saw in its entirety, with no sign of
things slowing down yet, according to Total’s marketing manager
Stuart Grimshaw.

This was partly the result of a large
increase in customer enquiries about leasing in the last quarter of
2008.

“As well as giving customers cashflow and
tax advantages, the leasing scheme lets a business acquire the
equipment it wants, rather than the best it can afford in one
payment,” said Grimshaw.

“In addition,” said Grimshaw, “customers
who lease branded freezers receive stock vouchers as part of the
deal, as if they had ordered online.”

Total saw overall sales fall to around
8,000 units in 2008 from 10,000 in 2007, but is confident the
vendor finance arrangement with Bibby will help keep business
flowing in 2009.
