For almost 10 years Kauppi has been a Finnish member of the
European Parliament, focusing on the work of the Economic and
Monetary Affairs Committee, notably financial market legislation.
As former chairwoman of the Financial Services Forum, Kauppi was
actively engaged in dialogue between EU bodies and financial
service providers.

Kauppi said: “In my new role I can make use of the experience
gained from EU-level legislation on financial markets. The
financial sector will play an increasingly important role in the
internal market.”

Reijo Karhinen, executive chairman of the OP-Pohjola Group, who
became chairman of the federation’s board in July, stressed that
lobbying by Finnish financial services is increasingly shifting to
the EU level.
