London transport authority Transport for London (TfL) is looking
to lease light rolling stock from other European transport
networks, in order to ease overcrowding on the British capital’s
Croydon Tramlink network.

TfL has made contact with the German cities of Cologne and
Saarbrucken, as well as Istanbul in Turkey and Berne in
Switzerland, looking for four two-car trams to use over the next
three years.

According to Railnews.co.uk, some 27.2 million citizens crammed
themselves onto the South London tram network last year, an
increase of 10.6 percent year-on-year.

Should the hunt for extra trams end fruitlessly, it is expected
that TfL will buy new units from manufacturer Bombardier, which
crafted the original fleet of 24 trams.
