CV registrations across Europe dropped almost 40 percent in six
months, according to figures recently published by ACEA.

Europe’s vehicle manufacturers’ association said that over the
first half of the year, 883,301 new vehicles were
registered – a 37.2 drop compared with a year ago, when
registrations in the first six months came close to 1.5 million
units.

In the January-June 2009 period, new van registrations decreased
by 36.5 percent across Europe.

They went down by 45.6 percent in the UK, by 50 percent n Spain
and almost 60 percent in Czech Republic. 

In the same period, registrations of trucks between 3.5 and 16
tonnes declined by 42 percent.

Again, Spain and the Czech Republic were amongst the worst
affected countries, down by 71.4 percent and 54.6 percent
respectively.

The market of heavier trucks was also significantly affected
across Europe.

In the first half of the year, new registrations of trucks over
16 tonnes were down 41.3 percent in Western Europe and 72.6 percent
in the new EU member states, resulting in an overall drop of 46.4
percent.
