UniCredit Leasing was Bulgaria’s largest lessor by new business
volume in the first six months of 2009, according to figures
released by the Bulgarian Leasing Association (BDL).

The leasing company, which is part of one of Europe’s largest
leasing networks, reached a 26 percent market share, with new
business volumes of over €81 million.

The company, however, said that the extent of the downturn will
mean that by the end of 2009, new leasing business will decrease by
more than 60 percent.

“In the best case scenario, we would be expecting [new leasing
business to be] equal to the first half of the year volumes,”
according to UniCredit Leasing CEO in Bulgaria Plamen Minev.

He added that the company now is more focused on managing the
existing portfolio and reducing risks, rather than undertaking new
business.
