Estonia’s new leasing business reached EEK355 million (€22.5
million) in July, a stunning 75 percent decrease from the EEK1.49
billion figure recorded the same month one year before.
The statistics, published by the Eesti Pank (Bank of Estonia),
showed that finance leases represented over 57.5 of the total new
business volumes, followed by operating leases with 32.4 percent
and hire purchase with 4.9 percent.

In terms of assets, in July leasing of passenger cars – which
traditionally is Estonia’s largest leasing sector – reached EEK150
million, compared with EEK540 million in July 2008.
Equipment leasing – the second largest market with a 27 percent
market share – fell from EEK404 million to EEK123 million.
The statistics also showed that compared with the first six
months of 2008, when monthly volumes were between EEK1.3 billion
and EEK1.5 billion, starting from January 2009 they were always
under EEK550 million, with the lowest figures being recorded in
February (EEK333 million) and July.
