CV registrations across Europe recorded a drop for the
seventeenth consecutive month in September, official figures have
shown.

According to Europe’s automobile manufacturers’ association
ACEA, new van and truck registrations were down 27.7 percent last
month, compared to September last year.

For the first nine months of 2009, there were 1,270,241
commercial vehicle registrations across Europe, 35.6 percent less
than the first three quarters of last year.

New van registrations were down 21.5 percent in Western Europe
and 57.7 percent in the new EU member states. Italy performed best,
with a 13 percent drop, while the Czech Republic was the hardest
hit with a 80.8 percent drop.

Heavy CVs were down 38.7 percent in Western Europe, and 66.3
percent in the new EU member states. In this segment, only the UK
posted a growth, of almost 28 percent.

The market segment between 3.5 tonnes and 16 tonnes saw an
overall 39.4 percent decline compared to the same month last
year.

Again, the UK stood out with the only positive figure (5.4
percent growth) and the most vehicles registered. Germany followed
closely in absolute figures, despite the sharpest downturn recorded
among the major markets, at minus 50.4 percent.
