– No demand for such
cranes in the UK at present due to downturn within the large-scale
construction sector. Hire companies and suppliers are over stocked
and older cranes are now becoming unsalable. Realisable values are
reducing month-on-month.

– Overseas markets
also reduced due to general economic conditions throughout Europe
and the Middle East.

Rough terrain

– Demand remains
constant on both a UK and international basis due to limited number
of units available and global market requirements. However, as with
most industrial assets, there is a reduction in demand.

All terrain (up to 80
tonnes)

– UK demand reduced
over past 24 months due to the decline in general house building
and construction sectors resulting in over capacity within the UK
crane hire sector.

– Demand also slowed
from export purchasers, although prices are supported by the strong
euro-sterling exchange rates.

All terrain (over 80
tonnes)

– UK and export demand
remains slow, however fewer units on market in comparison to sub-80
tonne capacity cranes.

– Demand remains for
very high capacity units as larger prefabricated modules bring
demand for higher capacity cranes, with more crane hire companies
looking to get into the sector.

Truck mounted

– Demand slowed
rapidly over the past 12 months to 24 months due to the reduction
in the UK steel erecting and building sectors, hence an
over-capacity within the UK crane hire sector.

– Export demand
substantially down due to the collapse of the Middle Eastern
markets.

Crawler –
hydraulic

– Demand showing signs
of slowdown within the sector. However, such units are generally
operated on large-scale civil projects, which are ongoing and less
affected by the economic downturn.

Crawler –
mechanical

– Limited demand for
the older mechanical cranes with many examples changing hands at
salvageable values only
