What was your first ever
job? Teaching English to Spanish and Italian kids at a
private school in Hastings followed by a stint at their school in
Santurce, northern Spain.
Where’s the best place
to go if you really want to find out what’s going on in the
office? Probably Facebook, which is probably why I
completely avoid it. We do have a totally open plan working
environment and I sit right in the middle so typically I get a good
feel of what is going on when I’m in.
What time do you usually
leave the office? I live 50 miles away, which means about
90 minute journeys each way if I get a good run. I tend to lock up
about 7pm usually when the motorway has quietened down a
bit.
What do you do at
weekends? Spend as much time with the family as possible.
Two young daughters tend to dictate much of the itinerary, but I’m
happiest rock pooling with them by the seaside.
US Tariffs are shifting - will you react or anticipate?
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard. Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis.
By GlobalDataWhat’s your favourite
restaurant? That’s a tough one. For really good pub grub
or a Sunday lunch, the Old Bore on Saddleworth Moor is hard to
beat. For great food and good atmosphere, my home town of
Manchester has some fabulous restaurants. The San Rocco on King
Street is still hard to beat and won’t break the bank. If you like
great food and have a palette for fine wines, book at a table at
The Witchery in Edinburgh – awesome.
If you weren’t in your
current job what would you be? I’d love to be an author –
partly to do with the creative expression it would afford me,
partly to do with the freedom of location and in no small part to
do with leaving a legacy when I finally shuffle off this mortal
coil.
Who is your mentor or
role model? I don’t really have one – I’m a firm advocate
of forging your own destiny. I try to live my life by simple rules
based around ethics and fairness – I don’t need to look up to
anyone for direction in that regard.
What is the best thing
about your job? Knowing we are building something truly
exciting at Bluestone Leasing and the sense of a really bright
future for the business and everyone involved in it.
What has been your
biggest work mistake? Probably staying too long in a
senior role I had some years ago. I’d been there a number of years
and stayed out of a false sense of loyalty.
What car do you
drive? A Land Rover – a little comfort for those long
commutes.
What book are you
currently reading? An autobiography of Norman
Wisdom.
What is on your mp3 player at the moment?
I think I have about 10,000 tracks on my iPod and currently Mumford
and Sons and Foo Fighters are jostling for my ear time.
