Kwik-Fit to expand services to UK LCV

UK automotive maintenance company Kwik-Fit has
announced a ‘major’ upgrade in the range of its services to the
light commercial vehicle fleet industry.
The firm has said it will expand the range of
tyres available in centres to cover the top 80% of LCVs, new
specialist LCV equipment will be introduced in its 800 UK centres,
additional LCV training will be given to staff and it will ensure
the vast majority of its centres can accommodate high-roof and long
wheel base LCV models.
Kwik-Fit Fleet, the firm’s fleet division,
will officially launch the improved service for LCVs at the 2012 CV
Show at the NEC Birmingham from 24-26 April.
The investment is being made as a result of
increasing demand from fleets for a wide-range of services,
according to a Kwik-Fit statement.

Fleet, said: “The van market is continuing to expand.
“Kwik-Fit Fleet is the largest provider of
fast-fit and related services to the UK company car market and we
anticipate that the investment we are making in centres, staff and
equipment to cater for the light commercial vehicle market will
further increase our share of that business sector.”
The first new-look centres in Glasgow,
Stafford, Strood, Stevenage and Newbury are operational and work
will commence imminently on the next 60 Kwik-Fit centres.
Ryder extends exclusive deal to become
Bridgestone’s largest European truck customer
Commercial vehicle hire firm Ryder has become
Bridgestone’s largest truck customer after extending its exclusive
contract with the tyre and rubber manufacturer.
All of Ryder’s new and retread tyres will be
sourced from Bridgestone.
The deal, which was signed in March 21012, has
been widened to cover Ryder’s expanded network since its
acquisition of truck and trailer rental Hill Hire in June 2011.
In Europe Ryder now operates out of 29
locations and has a fleet of over 24,000 trucks and trailers.
The two companies’ working relationship has
spanned 17 years. Bridgestone UK commercial sales director, Greg
Ward said: “We are delighted to take our long term relationship
with Ryder to this new level. They have been the genesis of our
fleet management systems.”
Ryder Fleet Services director, Terry Dillon
said: “The enhanced buying power of the combined business will
ensure reliability and consistency of tyre quality across our
national network, enabling us to offer an improved service.”
He added: “As well as being environmentally
friendly [the tyres] are highly economical, delivering very low
operating costs per kilometre.”
