Name: Neel Amin

Current job and Career: Current: Managing Director – New Leaf SearchNeel Amin New Leaf Search

Previously: Head of Sales (BT Financial Solutions); Head of Sales (Shell Auto Finance); Dealer Services Manager (Mercedes-Benz Finance); Area Manager (Mercedes-Benz Finance); Account Executive (Lombard); Graduate Trainee (Ford Credit Europe)

What was your first ever job? I worked for a catering wholesalers each summer holiday during my late teens – but my first step onto the career ladder was with Ford Credit;  based initially at their regional office in Elstree and thereafter at their Head Office in Brentwood

What’s your favourite restaurant? This varies depending on ‘the flavour of the month’. The Good Earth – Chinese restaurant in Mill Hill is a local favourite.

What do you do at weekends? Weekends are crazy, as I try to squeeze too much in and end up being at least a day short of a full break! Spending time with family and catching up with friends takes priority. Thereafter, if there’s any time/energy left over, it’s a choice between playing golf or going to a live football game (I’m a West Ham United fan)

Who is your mentor or role model? Personal: My Dad. I admire the way he coped in providing for us as a family when we moved and settled in 3 different Continents. His business and hard work ethic have been exemplary and inspiring. So too has been the way in which he is managing a debilitating illness; he just gets on with it and always remains positive.

Career: 3 notable mentors; each with their specific influences. Graham Prestedge (Lombard) who helped me cut my teeth in leasing sales. Bob Middleton (Mercedes-Benz Finance) who helped sharpen my management skills and Richard Whitton (Shell Capital) who shared his acute commercial and strategic experience.

What’s one of the best things about your job? The autonomy and control that working for yourself brings but also being part of a trusted team; sharing the same goals, aspirations and success.

If you weren’t in your current job, what would you have been? Probably a musician; as I spent a fair part of my late teens and twenties playing in a band.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake? Plenty of mistakes along the way – but that’s part and parcel of learning and experience. Plenty more to come too, I’m sure.

What cars do you drive? BMW and VW.

What are you currently reading? I’m not a fan of fiction and nor am I a big reader – so I tend to dip into factual/informative books – often several at a time. Current list includes ‘Good to Great’ by Jim Collins, ‘Blink’ by Malcolm Gladwell, ’59 Seconds’ by Richard Wiseman and ‘Powerlines’ by Steve Cone.

What’s on your CD player or MP3 player at the moment? Current favourites include artists such as Two Door Cinema Club, Wombats, Guillemots, Yeasayer, The Temper Trap, Delphic, Muse and The Klaxons… having said that, these artists also share the same MP3 space as many 80’s and 90’s artists including The Specials, The Beat, Manics, Oasis, Blur, Suede, Mansun and many more I’d dare to mention!
