Carl Zeiss, the microscopy, medical equipment and lens
manufacturer, has launched a pay-as-you-go scheme for its
coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs).
According to the manufacturer, the scheme is more flexible than
current leasing offers as it allows customers use of the machine
for one year, paying only for the hours of use, subject to an
agreed minimum usage.
The machine controller will record the hours of usage and users
will only be billed for the time the machine has been used.
At the end of the one-year contract, customers will be able to
either buy the machine with a rebate for the rental amount already
paid, or can return it, subject to nominal cost of de-installation
and shipment.
Carl Zeiss said that it was confident that the operation and
productivity benefits provided by a Zeiss CMM will be “made clear”
after one year’s usage. Indeed, when Carl Zeiss previously offered
a pay-as-you-go scheme, for another range of machines, in 2006, all
of its lease customers ultimately purchased the machine.
