All aboard: inside the AFPA boat party

By Christopher Marchant

The Asset Finance Professionals Association (AFPA) hosted an event at The Yacht London on Temple Pier to raise funds for charitable causes. Christopher Marchant reports.

The event was attended by those working across the finance, lending and leasing industry and ancillary product and service support areas.

During the event, there was fund raising for Unlocking Young Potential, an initiative led by AFPA trustee and consultant at Asset Finance Management Solutions, Johnnie Halliday, in his role as Somerset High Sheriff.

The initiative focuses on the Insight to Apprenticeship programme, which aims to raise aspirations for young disadvantaged teenagers around Weston-Super-Mare and Bridgwater.

Raffle prizes at the event included a hotel voucher for two with a two-night luxury break, a magnum of champagne, and a selection of wines.

Speaking at the event – alas not dressed in his regalia, as he was outside his county – Halliday said: “I am delighted that AFPA is supporting Unlocking Potential Somerset.

This is an initiative of past, present and future High Sheriffs to help young disadvantaged teenagers to aspire to achieve Brighter Futures.

“Often aged 13-14, they lack stable home lives and role models to follow, and do not understand the importance of their upcoming GCSE exams.

“We are launching an Insights to Apprenticeships programme this academic year, starting in September with four Bridgwater and two Weston-Super-Mare schools.”
